HI 317 - The Great Depression and the New Deal (M) This methodologically intensive course will focus on United States history from the origins of the Great Depression to the end of the New Deal. Topics will include the political, economic, social, and cultural history of the era. Specific emphasis will be placed on the origins and effects of the Great Depression, the stock market crash, and the nature of the institutional responses offered by Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal. Cadets will engage both historical and historiographical topics while completing a significant research project. Region: United States. Note: Methodologically Intensive (M). Prerequisite(s): HI majors must complete HI 200 with a minimum grade of C. Non-HI majors require permission of instructor.
