HI 326 - 19th Century South Africa: War, Cross and Gold (M) Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 0 Credit Hours: 3
This methodologically intensive course will focus on the history of nineteenth-century South Africa at a time when social and political communities in the region were radically transformed by encounters with European soldiers, missionaries and mining capitalists, setting the stage for the origins of apartheid South Africa. Cadets will explore the major historiographical issues and relevant primary sources as they prepare a substantial independent research paper. Region: Africa/Asia/Latin America.
