CIS 476 - Internship in Computer Science

This course offers academic credit for summer internships to CIS cadets. The main objective of this course is to teach academic components that are related to cadet internship so that they can build academic background in addition to their internship experience in the field. Cadets can earn up to three hours of academic credit through a professional internship in the computer science field. To qualify for academic credit, the employment portion of the internship must last:

·   100 to 199 work hours to qualify for one credit hour

·   200 to 299 work hours to qualify for two credit hours

·   300 or more work hours to qualify for three credit hours

Upon completion of all academic and employment requirements of the summer internship for the credit program, cadets will earn credit for CIS 476 (maximum three credit hours).

 

Learning Objectives: By the end of this course, students will be able to:

·   Analyze a problem and identify requirements for a solution

·   Survey existing work including research papers and published IT techniques and tools to evaluate their performance and usefulness to meet the requirements Prerequisite(s):

Cadets have

·   Reasonable GPA that greater than or equal to a 2.5 GPA in all CIS courses

·   Permission of course instructor and department head prior to enrollment

·   Proof of employment for internship
