An introduction to the early history of rhetoric, from the ancient Greeks to the Renaissance. Emphasis is placed on defining rhetoric and the ways in which ethical, religious, political, economic, and cultural beliefs and values shape its traditions, terms, and realms of influence. Note: Writing Intensive (W) and Civilizations and Cultures (X) course.
