Dr. Xie is an Assistant Professor of Chinese at Virginia Military Institute where she teaches Chinese language and culture courses. She obtained her doctorate from Stanford University in 2016. Her primary research interests include traditional Chinese drama, gender representation, and more recently, the interplay of theatre, media and popular culture.
Program Description
This full immersion study abroad program offers language courses in Chinese at all levels and a cultural course that features field trips to various local historic and cultural sites in Beijing. The program will also offer students the opportunities to travel to Xi’an, one of China’s six ancient cities. Students will earn a total of nine hours of credit, three hours for the Chinese culture course and six hours at 100, 200, 300, or 400 level, which can be counted toward fulfilling students’ language requirement. Upon arrival, students will take a placement test and be placed at the appropriate level/class.
Room and Board
Our program partners with Peking University, China’s top and first national university in its modern history. Students will be housed in double occupancy rooms in an on-campus apartment. Meals are not included. Students will be issued a campus card for the duration of the program and can add money to that card and use it to buy meals on campus at an average cost of $4 per meal.
