This course serves as an introduction to leadership based on theory, research, and practice. It emphasizes internal characteristics of effective leaders, how to work with followers, and the broader interactive networks in which leaders are embedded. The course will promote your self-awareness as a person, follower, and leader to enhance your leadership effectiveness across different situations and organizations. As a pathway toward developing your own leadership style, you will have exposure to a variety of leadership models that will complement other leadership training received at VMI. In addition to readings and lectures, the course will encompass experiential learning; including class exercises and activities, self-assessments, and case studies to generate reflection and discussion.
