EC 313X - The Economics of Transition and Institutional Development of the New EU Member States Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 0 Credit Hours: 3
This course will explore the role of history, geography, and institutions in the economic development of new European member states in Central and Eastern Europe, with particular emphasis on Slovenia and Hungary. The course will focus on understanding the transition from central planning to market economy, on the accession to the European Union, and on current developments such as the refugee crisis and the 2016 UK referendum on EU membership and its implications for the European Union. Note: Civilizations & Cultures Course (X). Prerequisite(s): EC 201 and EC 202 , both with a grade of C or better.
