IS 423 - International Political Economy Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 0 Credit Hours: 3
This is an undergraduate class on the politics of the global economy. The field of international political economy is broadly divided into the categories of trade and finance, but it is expanding to encompass newer topics as well. In this course, cadets will examine historical trends in the politics of trade and finance, the range of policy options available to states on each matter and how they choose, and what results such policy choices typically yield. We will consider these foundational topics in depth, then examine their intersection with critical emerging issues including the politics of migration, multinational corporations, and informal markets. By the end of the course, cadets should have developed a theoretical and practical understanding of these fixtures of a global economy, be able to contextualize them in the current political landscape, and feel prepared to weigh in on the dominant policy debates surrounding them.
