Synopsis of the B.S. Curriculum in Mechanical Engineering
Total Semester Hrs: 16.5 - 17
Total Semester Hrs: 17.5 - 18
Total Hours: minimum 140
Electives are chosen from the distribution requirements shown below.
For all Mechanical Engineering and Technical Elective courses taken or attempted in this curriculum, a minimum 2.0 average must be maintained.
* Minimum grade of C required
** To facilitate scheduling in the department half of the cadets majoring in ME will take LEAD 344 and half will take EE 351 .
Mechanical Engineering Curriculum Distribution Requirements for Electives
Electives are chosen by the cadet in consultation with the faculty adviser and subject to the distribution shown below. Mechanical Engineering Electives
Six (6) hours minimum course work selected from ME which contribute to the quality of the cadet’s program. Selection of appropriate courses must be made in consultation with the adviser. Note: Non-quantitative technical courses, such as ME 350X and ME 360X may not be used to meet this elective requirement. Also, research-based ME courses must be approved by the ME Department Head, prior to being taken, and must meet the mechanical engineering elective requirement to be awarded ME elective credit.
Technical Electives
Six (6) hours minimum course work selected from ME, CE, EE, CS, MA, PY, CH, or BI which contribute to the quality of the cadet’s program. Selection of appropriate courses must be approved by the ME department head in consultation with the adviser. Note: Non-quantitative technical courses, such as ME 350X, MA330WX, MA 331X, and CH 396X, may not be used to meet this elective requirement. Also, research-based ME and non-ME courses must be approved by the ME Department Head, prior to being taken, and must meet the technical elective requirement to be awarded Technical Elective credit.
Civilizations and Cultures Electives
Six (6) hours must be selected from the approved list of Civilizations and Cultures courses. Elective
Three (3) hours from course(s) selected from 200-level or higher. Courses in the 100-level may be selected in Modern Languages.
